Lag: A Look at Circadian Desynchronization, by Bill Ragan, M.S. was written to
emphasize the effect of a problem that has been recognized by business travels and
air line pilots for many years – jet lag. As jets became faster in recent years,
the problem of discomfort from air travel has become more pronounced. Ragan
indentified recent research that explained why and how discomfort from air travel
occurs and also named several ways to reduce the symptoms of jet lag.

The following is a quote from Lag: A Look at Circadian Desynchronization:

\"Gander et al. (1998) found that among one group
of crewmembers who made long-haul trips, the average
number of time zones crossed in one 24 hour period
was 8. Among the same crewmembers, it was found
that they slept for 105 minutes less on trip layover sleep
periods than they did prior to the trip.”
